Lonerism is a timeless album, heavily inspired by 60s psychedelic rock music but rather than being a cheap imitation, pushing that sound to new heights.
Fuzzy guitars distorted and clipped with overblown drums that are technically impressive as well as sonically enjoyable. All of that chaos mixed in with Kevin’s heavily reverb falsetto vocals creates the perfect juxtaposition.
The production is impressive as each song is carefully crafted from the intro to the outro, sounding cohesive throughout but constantly evolving. The songwriting is impressive as well, capturing the feelings of isolation but in a beautiful way. Almost as if the idea that being lonely doesn’t necessarily have to be something so dark and depressing but comforting.
That really stands out to me while listening to the album, it’s hard to pick a favorite, the track run from Be Above It to Feels Like We Only Go Backwards is as good as any. It’s perfect to me, the guitar solos transcend you with the energy that the song is trying to take you to.
Afterwards, the sound of Tame Impala shifted to a more pop and modern but this is a special album that should be remembered for its innovation with the sound textures, the song writing, and overall quality. There’s a reason why it’s a classic.
